FAQ

  • Does Milk It have an office space?

Milk It Lactation Services currently provides home visits and virtual consultations for families throughout the Albuquerque/ Rio Rancho area.

Home visits allow families to receive support in the comfort of their own environment during the postpartum period.

We are also exploring partnerships with community organizations for future in-person clinic days.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Milk It Lactation Services partners with Wildflower Health and The Lactation Network to help many families access lactation care through their insurance benefits.

Coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. If your plan is eligible through one of these partners, lactation consultations may be covered with little to no out-of-pocket cost.

Families are also welcome to schedule self-pay visits if their insurance plan is not eligible through these partners.

For families with insurance plans that offer out-of-network lactation benefits, we can provide a superbill after your visit. A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement.

If your insurance requires a claim form, we are happy to assist by faxing your completed claim form and superbill to your insurance company on your behalf.

Because insurance plans vary, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your out-of-network lactation coverage and reimbursement eligibility.

  • Will I need more than one visit?

Some families find that one visit provides the support they need to move forward with confidence.

However, breastfeeding and infant feeding challenges often improve with ongoing support and follow-up care. A follow-up appointment may be recommended to monitor progress, adjust your feeding plan, and provide additional guidance as your baby grows and feeding patterns change.

Many families benefit from one or two follow-up visits as feeding improves and new questions arise.

We also recommend milestone visits throughout your feeding journey to support long-term success. These visits can be helpful during times such as:

    • The first weeks of breastfeeding
    • Establishing milk supply
    • Returning to work and pumping
    • Bottle introduction
    • Growth spurts or feeding changes
    • Starting solids
    • Preparing for weaning

Every family’s situation is unique, and follow-up care is always based on your individual needs and feeding goals.

  • Scope of Practice and Medical Disclaimer

Milk It Lactation Services provides evidence-based lactation education, feeding support, and postpartum care. Services are provided by a Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and focus on helping families meet their infant feeding goals through education, hands-on support, and connection to community resources.

During consultations, we may assess feeding, latch, pumping, bottle feeding, and infant oral function as it relates to feeding. While we may identify feeding challenges and provide supportive strategies, we do not diagnose medical conditions, diagnose tongue or lip ties, prescribe medications, or perform medical procedures. If concerns arise outside of our scope of practice, we may recommend follow-up with your pediatrician, primary care provider, pediatric dentist, or another qualified healthcare professional.

Milk It Lactation Services may also provide pre- and post-procedure feeding support for families whose providers recommend treatment for oral restrictions.

Placenta encapsulation services are offered as a traditional postpartum practice at the client’s request. These services are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition and should not replace medical care from your healthcare provider.

All information provided through consultations, classes, written materials, and online content is intended for educational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. Families should always seek guidance from their healthcare provider regarding medical concerns for themselves or their infant.
