Amy Salazar RN BSN IBCLC

My name is Amy, I have my BSN and have been an RN for 10 years. I am an IBCLC and have worked the past 7 years with mom’s and babies. I l work at a baby friendly hospital that adheres to evidence-based practice. I am super passionate in supporting mom’s and babies with their breastfeeding goals. The postpartum period and beyond, is such a special time for mom’s and their babies and I love that I can be there for them every step of the way to help support their feeding goals.

My nursing career began working in the emergency room for two years however, my true passion has always been in caring for mothers and infants. I worked as a postpartum nurse on a mother baby unit and then transitioned to outpatient lactation. My desire was to assist mothers and babies with during their transition to home. It is so important for all families to have the education and resources they need to thrive once they return home.

I started my own motherhood journey with the birth of my two girls, Ella and Layla. My breastfeeding journey has helped me to gain insight to some of the challenges that families go through, and support them to help them reach their goals. Some of the challenges that I experienced with my girls, were returning back to work, pumping in a bathroom, experiencing decrease in milk supply, mastitis, dealing with tongue tie, managing nipple pain and the use of nipple shields. Overcoming some of these challenges has helped me to drive my passion and give the breastfeeding dyads the support, education and tools they need to help them achieve their breastfeeding goals.

I’m so happy to be a part of Milk it and look forward to working with all the families in the Milk It community.

I am thrilled to have Amy on the Milk It team!

I am beyond excited to announce that we have welcomed a truly exceptional Lactation Consultant to our team. Her passion and dedication to providing outstanding lactation care in the community have been nothing short of inspiring.

She brings not only her extensive knowledge but also a deep sense of compassion and understanding for every family she works with. The positive impact she has made in our community is remarkable! Its no wonder she was awarded favorite lactation nurse in 2024 from the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force. I am so grateful to have her on board.

Personally, she has been an incredible mentor to me, sharing her wisdom, guiding me through challenges, and pushing me to grow both professionally and personally. She’s more than just a colleague; she’s a true role model in the field of lactation care. I’m confident that our clients will continue to benefit immensely from her expertise and caring approach.
